Overview

Today, you’ll learn how to use Taskade’s Custom AI Agents to create a faster, more effective applicant screening process. Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • πŸ”Ά How to use AI to identify strong and weak points in resumes.

  • πŸ”Ά Matching candidate qualifications with job descriptions.

  • πŸ”Ά Creating interview questions that are relevant to the role

First, let's explain a few basic concepts we touch on in this article.

What Are AI Agents?

AI Agents are small tools designed to automate routine tasks inside your projects. Each agent has unique knowledge, skills, and commands for more tailored support.

Check the video below to learn more. πŸ‘‡

Applicant Screening Explained

The workflow for this use case is simple. We're going to create an AI Agent and train it on the specific requirements of your job offering. This can include:

  • πŸ”Ά Qualifications

  • πŸ”Ά Experience

  • πŸ”Ά Technical skills

  • πŸ”Ά Soft skills

  • πŸ”Ά Language skills

  • πŸ”Ά Availability

  • πŸ”Ά Location

  • πŸ”Ά And many more...

For each applicant, we'll set up a separate project that includes their resume, cover letter, references, and any additional documents or information they've provided.

Finally, we will deploy our custom AI agent into these projects to analyze the information and assess how well the applicants match the job criteria.

Let's build it!

Create an Applicant Screening Agent

Creating a custom AI agent in Taskade is simple. You can set one up from scratch or use one of the existing agent templates to speed up the process.

For this task, we're going to use the πŸ“„ Resume agent template:

    • Go to the Agents tab in the workspace/folder.

    • Click βž• Create agent.

You're now in the Agent Creator:

  • Choose the πŸ“„ Resume agent template from the list.

  • Create a unique name for your custom agent, e.g. Applicant Screening Agent.

  • Select an avatar or upload your own.

  • Click Create to save the new agent.

Train the Agent

With the agent in place, we need to teach it what constitutes the ideal candidate for the job opening. This will allow the agent to parse and understand incoming resumes.

    1. Go to the Agents tab again.

    2. Hover the mouse cursor over the πŸ”Ž Applicant Screening agent.

    3. Click the ✏️ Edit agent button on the right.

There are several options to teach the agent new things.

For our πŸ”Ž Applicant Screening agent, we're going to upload a job description and a list of generic interview questions for a Data Analyst position.

  1. Choose the Knowledge tab on the left.

    • (method #1) Click the box under ADD SOURCES and select the file.

    • (method #2) Drag & drop the file from your device.

  2. Enable the Knowledge toggle in the top-right corner.

  3. Click Update to save changes.

Our πŸ”Ž Applicant Screening Agent agent is ready. Let's put it to work.

Build Applicant Profiles

For this step, we've adopted a project-based approach.

Each new project will correspond to individual candidates, which will allow us to assess their experience and see where they stand in the hiring pipeline.

    1. Open your workspace or folder.

    2. Click the βž• New project button (top-right corner).

    3. Enter the candidate's name as the project title.

    4. Copy the candidate's accomplishments and experience into the project.

πŸ’‘ Note: You can set up an automation flow that will automatically process incoming applications. Visit our Automation Guide to learn more.

We're almost done β€” let's move on to the last step.

Use the AI Agent to Screen Applicants

In this step, we're going to use the πŸ”Ž Applicant Screening agent to compare each applicant's experience and skills against the job description. When done, the agent will report on which areas are a strong match and which may fall short.

    • Open one of the projects with candidates' profiles we created earlier.

    • Open the chat window (bottom-right corner).

In the chat window:

  1. Open the drop-down at the top and Choose the πŸ”Ž Applicant Screening agent.

  2. Ask the agent to assess the candidate's resume by matching it against the criteria outlined in the job description. Wait for it to generate the output.

Finally, you may ask the agent to generate a list of personalized questions you'll ask the applicant during the interview.

And that's it!
